Black and White

closet

cookie cutter houses

This is my first roll of black and white. These photos were taken last summer before I went on my trip to China. I misplaced the roll when I was in the midst of moving and packing.
Just when I thought I'd never find this roll of film again, I found it a couple weeks ago. I was excited to see what comes out of it.
These photos are quite different than what I imagined they would be when I was composing them in the viewfinder. Shooting in b&w seems like a completely different world to me. Maybe I should be more aware of the subtle shadows and tones next time I'm composing a photo. Any tips?
Happy almost Friday!

Lovely to remember how summer (?) can be. Here in the middle of snow, but luckily a lot of sun.

Sun to you too!

It's quite embarrassing actually but all the years I've used film I've never tried b&w, somehow it looks difficult to get right, I'm sure a lot of what I shoot now will look blah without colour *lol* I think your first roll is lovely though, I like the contrast.

Hi May--I have to admit that I wasn't in love with my first roll of black and white either. It was either hyper grainy or overexposed...so I've got a lot to learn. I think Brian at The Blue Hour wrote a nice post with some tips a while ago, that might be worth looking up? I'm now back in Thailand to write my thesis, and after that wherever the work takes me...maybe Canada?
